Kinect for Xbox 360[3], or simply Kinect (originally known by the code name Project Natal[3] (pronounced /nəˈtɒl/ nə-tahl)), is a "controller-free gaming and entertainment experience" by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 video game platform. Based around a webcam-style add-on peripheral for the Xbox 360 console, it enables users to control and interact with the Xbox 360 without the need to touch a game controller through a natural user interface using gestures, spoken commands,[4] or presented objects and images. The project is aimed at broadening the Xbox 360's audience beyond its typical gamer base.[5] It will compete with the Wii Remote with Wii MotionPlus andPlayStation Move motion control systems for the Wii and PlayStation 3 home consoles, respectively.
Kinect is scheduled to launch worldwide starting with North America on November 4, 2010,[3] with system purchase options including a bundle of a Kinect sensor with the game Kinect Adventures (US$149.99, €149.99 or GB£129.99) and a console bundle with a 4 GB Xbox 360 console, a Kinect sensor, and Kinect Adventures (US$299.99, €299.99, GB£249.99).[6][7][8] Kinect launch games will retail for US$49.99 in the United States[6] and GB£39.99 in the United Kingdom.[7]
